So in History class we were talking about Israel and Palestine and I took notes on it because I know we were talking about it. So I thought I’d share. It’ll be in Bullet points tho:
- Under the Balfour declaration, the British promised the Jews and Arabs land.
- After WW2, the Arabs got Arabia, but they weren’t happy with that because they were promised more. France and Britain got Trans-Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine.
- The Jews never got a promised homeland
- The Jews, having nowhere to go since their homes were destroyed by WW2 went to their biblical promised land: Jerusalem.
- The Brits wouldn’t stop them because these were Jewish refugees, most often straight out of a concentration camp, so they turned it over the the U.N.
- The U.N. almost gave the Jews Madagascar, but they learned that Hitler was going to do the same. There were a ton of other places too, but they were all decided against. So the Jews said fine. We’re only gonna be happy here in Jerusalem.
- The U.N. then split up Palestine into a Jewish area and a Muslim area. Jerusalem was an international area.
- The Jews were happy about this because they got a homeland. The Muslims were unhappy, because they didn’t want to share. This was their land and they weren’t going to give it up. So there’s been conflict ever since.
- In Hamas Palestine (in the Gaza Strip) there was a mickey mouse like cartoon telling children to kill Israelis.
- In Israel, there were children’s books telling them to be watchful for any Arab attacks
So basically the French and British screwed the middle east over.
And, here’s the thing that really, really makes me angry. I know there’s alot of people going around saying “Poor Palestinians. They aren’t armed. They’re getting persecuted by the Israelis”. Well, the Hamas (in the Gaza Strip remember) were the ones firing rockets into Israel. The only time the news reports something though is when Israel got fed up and started protecting themselves from it. Look at the Gaza strip on the map. It has to take everything for the Israelis to resist wiping the Hamas out. The Israelis could wipe it out in a heartbeat, but they haven’t.

Take that as you want to because after all, it is a history class and facts can be messed up. He’s been pretty factual though. He doesn’t take sides.
I think we should have given the Jews Florida when we had the chance. :P
