Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said this week that he was a “huge fan” of Pope Francis but that the pontiff should stop buying into the global warming debate and, instead, “leave the science to the scientists.”

Pope Francis has a masters degree in chemistry and taught that subject (among others) at the university level before becoming a bishop.

Rick Santorum is a lawyer.

Between the two of them, I trust the guy with the *scientific background* to school me on climate change.

The scientists and the Catholic Church has a special meeting so that the Catholic Church can figure out how science fits in with their teachings. Because science is fact, after all. Even if Pope Francis isn’t up to date on the science at the moment, the scientists will make sure he will be.
