In this third video of my It’s Okay To Be Smart series on energy, we’re not looking at where energy is made, we’re looking at some of the surprising places it’s wasted.
Renewable energy is great, lowering our carbon emissions is even better, but we throw a lot of energy in the proverbial trashcan, and unless we change that we’re gonna have a problem no matter where we’re getting our energy from.
There’s the obvious ways we waste energy, like leaving lights on when we don’t need to, or keeping the thermostat cranked down to refrigerator levels during the heat of summer, but there’s also some less obvious, although just as significant, ways we waste.
Bringing your food to the dinner table, throwing uneaten food away, pumping water to our sinks and cities, even planes, trains and automobiles… all of these are serious sources of wasted energy that we could either reduce or put to better use.
