I do believe that this is one of the most impressive scenes ever. Six thousand men, riding only to death. How can you not get goose bumps while watching this?
It gets even better when you consider that when the casting call was put out for horsemen to do this scene, a whole fuckin’ bunch of ladies showed up with their animals.
So the costume department shrugged and put beards on ‘em.
That’s nearly six thousand disguised women riding to death.
….which makes me think we’re overdue for a fic about gender roles in Rohan and how occasionally the men will put on their women’s dresses, hand over their shields, and go “Kick some ass with the King, honey, I want to learn how to spin some thread.”
