I saw this post today and it got me thinking about practical superhero outfits.
Spandex is what we usually think of as superhero outfits, but spandex really isn’t practical. Sure the argument is that it allows more agile heroes to be flexible, but scrape, rip, tear and you’re showing alot of skin. There’s no armor or padding.
The one piece suit doesn’t seem bad until, realistically, someone needs a restroom. Or if they wear it under their normal clothes all day, but I think Superman being indestructible is excusable for that. Spiderman, however, what are you thinking?
I think Nolan’s Batman outfit has the right idea, being armored. I like the leather in the batgirl post as well since it’s basic motorcycle protection. But if someone like catwoman was in tight leather, wouldn’t that squeak and be a little painful?
I also like what Marvel is doing with their characters in modernizing the outfits. I’m assuming black widow’s costume is made out of leather? Or maybe some other bullet proof material? Falcon trading spandex for a more military look is much more practical.
Obviously we all know capes are bad and women with no super powers showing an extreme amount of skin is another topic I don’t want to discuss right now. I am really focusing on the suit itself.
What kind of suits do you think is practical for superhero/ines to wear?
